aya Academy

Aya, Inc. is guided by the believe that intergenerational mentoring is key to preparing then ext generation of leaders. Through our one-on-one volunteer mentoring, our extensive training, staff support and weekly workshops, we have developed a consistent space for sisterhood, leadership development and support for the high school students in our program. We partner with the FBR Boys and Girls club to recruit high school girls from the Southeast Washington DC area who are assigned college mentors and participate in weekly mentorship, workshops, and activities. Programming for high school students last at least a year and often sustain after graduatation. The sessions focus on:

  • Health and mental wellness
  • Economic skill development and entrepreneurship
  • Leadership
  • Professional development
  • Knowledge of self and branding
  • Future planning and goal setting
  • Resume building, interview preparation and employment readiness
  • Civic engagement and advocacy training
  • Community service

High school students also participate in enrichment activities which include the annual Aya Inc. Queens Summit and DC College Tour.
